Imagine the universal energy like an ocean. When many people experience similar emotions, it forms waves in the universal energy. People who are unprotected are tossed around by those waves like flotsam. They may watch CNN and be as immersed in the trauma of what is happening as those who have houses under water, as those in threat of their lives, because those waves of emotion are bombarding them with the very emotions felt by the people in the midst of the event. Then, it’s very difficult to distinguish that emotion from your own because it’s affecting your body.
Imagine your personal energy flowing through you like a column of white light. It flows in both directions simultaneously: in through the crown and out through your feet; and in through your feet and out through your crown. It looks like a pillar of light: a column. It may look like fire, or stone, or a whirlwind or a pillar of water. The element will be what is appropriate to you, whatever feels right.
Imagine your column standing in the ocean of the universal energy. Root it deep in the heart of the earth. Anchor it to God, or the Universe, at the Source. When your intention is to form a column, the waves bashing around in the universal energy do not push you around, or influence you with the rushes of emotion. Not only do the waves go around you, but their force is diminished by the impact with your energy, so that you are also helping the earth and it’s people by reducing the impact of these traumas.
If you’d like to do more to help, imagine your light beaming out from your column, so that your glow is a beacon in the turmoil, giving to everyone. This effect increases the flow through you, which is also beneficial to you.
With practice, you can keep a column in place all the time. That’s a good thing. In the beginning, think about doing it once a day, or whenever you think of the tragedies. The more you do this, the more you protect yourself. It also trains your body and your limbic system to feel safe in the midst of all that is happening. Thinking about the spiritual purpose of these events doesn’t really cut it, you have to do the energy work to really affect your reactions.
Keep in mind that there is a resistance to change. Parts of your subconscious think it’s appropriate to react, and will resist protecting yourself. This is all tied to suffering because others are suffering, being a caring person, and other false belief programs that abound in our society. Remember, you are helping others as well as yourself when you column up: this is an active form of caring.
If you’re having strong reactions, here’s how to increase the protection. Every time you go up to the ‘ocean’ and form your column, sit for a while and feel the peace of being in that column state. Let that sense of peace permeate you, and then bring it back with you to your body. That trains your body to hold the peace. Keep doing this part until your body stops reacting. What you are doing is retraining your body’s reactions, so that it doesn’t go into the reaction state, and that may take a while. It’s definitely worth the effort, both to be rid of the reactions you’re currently having, and to establish a new pattern so future events don’t trouble you.
